“The Holy Scriptures are our letters from home.” -Augustine of Hippo We do not hide that we are Christian, this article is on reading scripture. Specifically, the Holy Bible. There are many scriptures that are a part of many different religions. We may refer to verses from the Bible, we hope that you will apply their truths into your life; and find within your faith's scriptures those that will uplift you. Reading scriptures daily will enhance your everyday life in ways that I cannot even begin to describe to you. You will have a different perspective in all things...at work, with your family, in your community, in your alone time. The world wants us to lose hope. The world wants us to think that we are living in a world that is completely hopeless because humans are in charge. When we change that thought process and allow our lives to be governed by our Heavenly Father, a change will occur in our perspective. We will be compelled within our inner being to do good. We will not be forced to do charity work, or to give of our time. Those things will come naturally in our thought process and then work it's way into our daily lives. Looking at the whole world's problems in one picture will create a depression within us that we cannot climb out of by ourselves. However, if we look at the world's problems by seeing what is around us that we can affect change in; we have a perspective that can give us happiness. Happiness is not created by material objects in our lives; happiness is created within the heart. We can find some of the happiest people on earth in areas where suburb luxurious homes are nowhere to be found. Happiness is internal, and is created internally through looking beyond ourselves. Pick up your scriptures and read a verse or two. Tomorrow, read a chapter. Keep that up, for the rest of the week. Then, next weed, read two chapters. Then, keep that up for a month. Then, stop limiting yourself on how much you read and do that for a year. That's a long time, isn't it? But, you will see such a change in your life. Set the goal. Through my scripture reading and the prayers that accompany my study, I have gained knowledge which brings me peace and helps me keep my energies focused on eternal priorities. Julie Beck
