We have been counseled to seek out the best books to enlarge our vision and knowledge. Sometimes that books is a classic, sometimes it's a current best seller. However, there are many books that do not fall into the 'best books' category. We have to be careful what we put into our minds. Our time is precious and filling it with books that do not enrich us is wasting time that we will never get back. I love to read. I got out of the habit for a couple of years because I needed glasses, and I did not want bifocals, I wanted two pair of glasses. So, I had to save up a bit. Getting out of the habit was not good. I am now trying to get back into my reading habit. I have read many good books and I have read a few that I realized were a complete waste of time and money. One of my favorite authors is John Grisham. We met him at Burke's Book Store in Memphis at a book signing and my daughter told him that she loved his books because they were so clean, he responded, "I write for my grandmother. If she can't read it, then I shouldn't write it." He endeared himself to me more than he will know that day. My daughter's English teacher felt Grisham was 'fluff' writing. Well, we need 'fluff' writing in today's world. So, find your 'fluff' author and curl up with that wonderful book to escape into another world. Then we have the non-fiction books that can enrich our knowledge. What is something you want to learn more about? My passions are history and gospel symbolism. So, with history I have found that there are many different writers there. A favorite of mine to do is when we go to a historical place, I try to find a book on it. This has led our library to include books Salem witch trials, WW2 submarine USS Tang, New Orleans French Quarter stories, the women of Cades Cove, religions of Okinawa, and, of course, many Haunted "fill in the city". I attended a workshop on gospel symbolism by Alongzo Gaskill and he pulled me in with discussion on triple digit religious artifacts and history. I am also an avid follower of Stephen Covey's books. I have discovered Audible, where I can purchase a book and then as I do housework I can listen to a book. This has been amazing for me! I do like having a Kindle, but I also like to turn real pages. However, the Kindle is much easier to pack and take along on an airplane. So, however, you choose to seek out the best books, get started! Make this a goal. Set the goal, and remember that doing an activity for 21 days creates a habit. I have attached a free check off goal sheet. It helps to actually 'see' your progress towards your goal. It's important for you to keep your momentum going to know you are progressing through your goal. You can set a secondary goal with your best book, decide that you are going to write down what you learned as you read it. We have a workbook to do as you read "The Hiding Place" by Corrie ten Boom, it takes you into the life lessons ten Boom presents in each chapter. So, what book are you going to set a goal to read? One already on your bookcase gathering dust, or one you need to purchase? Whichever it is, do it. Do it, now. Download Free Goal Work Sheet Purchase Workbook for 'The Hiding Place' by Corrie ten Boom
